Russian Ormulu Mounted Jasper Vase

 A late 18th century Russian ormulu mounted Jasper vase, having the unique feature of a broad flat disc to the base, giving an integral part of the lower section. The base is recessed to receive two different pairs of finely chassed ormulu mounts, being Trophies of Love. The motif on the handles corresponds in design to a set of 4 candle stands made for the Egyptian pavilion at Ostankino 1795 (plate 32 page 46 from Russian Furniture by Antoine Cheneviere, see picture below).
